2) What are your hours of operation?
We are open during the following times:
Winter: Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Summer: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: Closed
3) Does Career Development Services provide career counselling?
Yes, we are first and foremost a professional career counselling service. This means our staff are able to administer career assessments, provide initial screening for achievement levels, screen for undiagnosed learning disability and provide holistic career counselling to assist individuals in determining their career path.
We are not a community counselling or mental health counselling facility however we can refer you to appropriate and timely counselling services in our communities.
4) Is there someone who can type my resume for me?
No. We do not provide a typing service, but we do have office software available at our Resource Centre workstations. We would be happy to assist you in the use of these software programs. We can also refer you to community agencies who may offer resume writing services.
5) Do you provide resume building and interview tips?
Yes, we do assist you in resume building and interview skills and we can refer you to other agencies that provide these services.
6) I have never used a computer. Can I still use your services?
Yes, no matter how much or how little you've used a computer, you are welcome at Career Development Services. Our staff would be happy to assist you in the basics, such as using the Links bookmarked on our computers and searching the HRDC Job Bank postings. We can guide you to basic computer programs or courses in the community. At CDS we recognize the increased use of technology in today's society and we place a high value on this skill for all our clientele.
7) Do you offer financial assistance for training?
No, Career Development Services does not offer funding for training or skills development, however, our professional staff can assist in discussing options with you.
8) Can you tell me where to find more training?
Yes, we have many resources to assist in researching training facilities across Canada.
9) Can you tell me how to do a proper job search?
Yes, at Career Development Services our staff have extensive experience in effective job search techniques. They would be pleased to provide some tips on using the services and technology offered, or provide a workshop/session, as well as refer you to other services within the community.
10) Do I have to book computer time in advance?
No, we have a number of computer workstations available for job search related activities; advance booking is not mandatory, however there may be times when our resource centre stations are busy.
11) Do I have to be in receipt of EI benefits to use your services?
No. Anyone may use our resource centre services, however EI eligible clients may have access to funding support for skills development or other services.
Eligibility
Individuals accessing services must be unemployed, working less than 20 hours per week, expecting a lay-off notice or are leaving their job
for medical reasons.
